Tour Our New Facility

PVSEC opened its doors to patients June 2, 2008. The state-of-the-art facility is the most comprehensive multi-specialty veterinary hospital in the Western Pennyslvania area.

Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Dentistry and Emergency patients check in at the first floor reception area. Ophthalmology, Dermatology and PetsDx Veterinary Imaging patients check in at the second floor reception desk.

Allergy testing at PVSEC is done by the only board-certified Dermatologist in the Western Pennsylvania area.

Technicians in the Dermatology Department routinely screen tissue and fluid samples for the presence of bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

PVSEC now has three board-certified ophthalmologists on staff who do advanced diagnostic procedures.

Cataract removal is performed on patients routinely at PVSEC Ophthalmology, after diagnostic testing determines that the patient is a good candidate for surgery.

PVSEC is the only facility in Western PA with on-site, High-field MRI and CT.

The technologies available at PVSEC enable the area's only board-certified neurologist/neurosurgeon to diagnose and manage the treatment of various acute and chronic neurological disorders. Brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) testing for neurological deficits is one of the tools used by the neurologist at PVSEC.

The open floorplan of the downstairs treatment area allows for seamless transitions in patient care and increased cooperation between the Internal Medicine, Oncology, Emergency, Surgery and Neurology departments.

Our board-certified internists perform ultrasounds and other diagnostic procedures for patients seen by the Internal Medicine and other departments throughout the hospital.

Chemotherapy is prepared for administration to a cancer patient. Rebecca Newman, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology), our oncologist, overseas the diagnosis and treatment of many types of cancer in dogs and cats. Most chemotherapy is well-tolerated by dogs and cats.

The hospital’s ICU is staffed around the clock by veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Our surgeons perform various types of orthopedic, soft tissue, neurologic, and minimally invasive surgical procedures including arthroscopy.

Larger dogs stay in runs during hospitalization and smaller dogs and cats stay in one of the many wards with smaller kennels.

Digital x-rays can be taken in one of our two radiology suites.

Digital x-rays are reviewed by the veterinarians at PVSEC; however, the images can be viewed off-site by a radiologist when an additional opinion is necessary.Digital x-rays are reviewed by the veterinarians at PVSEC; however, the images can be viewed off-site by a radiologist when an additional opinion is necessary.
